>Am I the only person who thinks that "Easy" (from "They Call Her Easy) >is the same woman that the midnight watchman "picks up" in "A Better >Place to Be"? >Doug Similar themes, for sure. But both women were based on real (different) women. "They Call Her Easy" was written about a woman Harry knew during his college years, when his sensitivity toward the opposite sex had earned him the nickname "Gapin' Chapin". They had a summer romance, and she chastised him for bragging to his friends about their rendez-vous. "A Better Place to Be" was based on a conversation Harry had with an older man in a bar in Watertown, NY (where he spent a week one afternoon), who told him about a one-night stand he had with a beautiful young woman and the relationship he was currently enjoying with the barmaid. Perhaps that old man's story reminded Harry of his own experiences with women and his reactions to their gifts of companionship. -John
